My name is David Lewis and I took up running at the beginning of 2008 with a few short local runs. My first ever race was only a few months later jumping in at the deep end with the Reading Half Marathon. I was extremely pleased with my first race finishing in 1 hour 42 minutes and from then on have become totally addicted to running.

Since then I have progressed onto the much faster paced 10k races and found out about Reading parkrun (a weekly free timed 5km timed run down by the Thames). So far I have completed 72 parkruns, received my 50th parkrun Nike tshirt and actually finished runner-up in the Reading parkrun points table for 2011. I have gained so many good friends and massively improved my speed. I am hoping this year to run a sub-20 minute 5k for the first time.

In 2011 I was lucky enough to get into the Virgin London Marathon through the ballot system and ran my first ever Marathon for Guide Dogs for the Blind Charity. This was an amazing experience, the hard months of training finally paying off when you are waiting for the start of the race with 35000 other runners. I didn't get in for 2012 so will try something else later on in the year, not quite decided yet.

My Wave4Dave website was initially setup in October 2010 to monitor my marathon training, help with my Charity fundraising and track my progress. My running continues...
